| Day 1, Halifax
- Today passengers will be arriving from all points. You will be met at
the airport and transferred to your hotel. GL Travel Services welcomes
you to Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. Translated Nova Scotia means
“New Scotland” in Latin, our Gaelic welcome is “Ciad Mille Failte“meaning
“One Hundred Thousand Welcomes” . We are blessed with sandy
beaches, rugged shorelines, a colourful history and friendly people.
Halifax, our capitol city founded in 1749, was the site of the first
British town in Canada. Since then, the area has become home to a large
multicultural melee of people. Charming fishing villages, farming
communities and Atlantic Canada's largest city welcome you. This
evening we will have a Welcome Dinner to meet your fellow passengers
and ask any questions you may have. (Dinner) One Night |

Day 2, Halifax - Liscombe Lodge
- We drive along Marine Drive and visit Fisherman’s
Museum, the house and gardens look just as they did a century ago, when
the property was home to a fisherman, his wife and their 13 daughters.
This afternoon we visit Sherbrooke Village, a place where time has
stood still. Built on an economy of ship building, lumbering and gold
mining, Sherbrooke Village reflects Nova Scotia as it was during its
industrial boom in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This evening we stay
at one of Nova Scotia’s Signature Resorts nestled among the
evergreens in one of the most beautiful riverside settings in Atlantic
Canada, be lulled to sleep by the whispering of the river and the
mystical call of the loon and awaken to the sounds of early-morning
songbirds.

Day 3, Mabou – Iona - Baddeck
- On our way to the Cabot Trail we drive through the village of Mabou
– home of the Rankins, one of Canada’s premiere musical
families. Later we visit Iona, the only living history museum for
Gaelic language and heritage in North America. Visit the look-off for a
breathtaking view of the Bras D’Or Lakes which means ‘Arm
of Gold’. We travel through the heart of Cape Breton along the
beautiful Bras d'Or Lakes, an inland sea and a sailor's paradise;
a world famous scenic drive noted for its spectacular vistas of rolling
seaside terrain and breathtaking seascapes. 'Beinn Bhreagh', Alexander
Graham Bell's summer home still sits majestically watching over Baddeck
Bay. Bell once remarked, "I have traveled around the globe... and for
simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." This evening we stay in
Baddeck in the heart of Cape Breton on the beautiful Bras d'Or Lakes.
This charming little town is the beginning and end of the Cabot Trail. (Breakfast, Dinner) Two Nights

Day 4, Cabot Trail - Whale Watching
- Today is another highlight day as we travel around the Cabot Trail, a
world famous scenic drive noted for its spectacular vistas of rolling
seaside terrain and breathtaking seascapes! It is said that Norsemen
landed on the shores of Cape Breton in the 10th century. John Cabot
reputedly made his first landfall in the New World off the east coast
of Cape Breton in 1497. Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the first
national park in the Maritimes, situated in the northern section of
Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, preserves 950 square kilometres of
wilderness. The best known feature of the park-the Cabot Trail, provides breathtaking views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence headlands and the curving Atlantic shores.
|
  We
shall stop in the Acadian Village of Cheticamp and board a whale
watching boat. As we travel around the Cabot Trail keep your eyes
open for wildlife, maybe an eagle gracefully soaring in the clear blue
skies or if we are lucky see a moose or two ambling down the
highway.
The Cabot Trail winds north from Baddeck, goes through the Acadian
Village of Cheticamp and climbs French Mountain, moving along the
Gulf of St. Lawrence coast to Pleasant Bay and then across the
interior to Ingonish at the north-eastern entrance to the park.
There are many places one can walk through a variety of habitats
typical of this natural region of lush hardwood, boreal forests, bogs,
barrens and muskeg. Along the Gulf shoreline, the carefully monitored
schools of Atlantic salmon begin their return upriver on their spawning
runs. Cape Breton Highlands is one of only four national parks in the
world protecting breeding habitat of this internationally threatened
species. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5, Fortress Louisbourg
- Today we visit Fortress Louisbourg, the crown jewel of the Canadian
Park Service and the largest historical reconstruction in Canada. You
can lunch here and taste the meals of the 18th century. Fortress
Louisbourg was built to protect France's interests in the new world and
serve as the centre of its enormous seasonal fishing industry. Its
location near the eastern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia made
it possible to not only serve as the capital of the new colony of Ile
Royale but also to act as the first line of security for France in its
struggle against Great Britain for colonial supremacy in North America
in the 18th century.
The Fortress offers a unique window into our past and our 18th century
colonial history. Dozens of costumed animators become the town's
residents of the summer of 1744. Surrounded by ramparts, the King's
Bastion is a fort within a fortress. The King's Bastion Barracks is the
largest building on site and in its day was one of the largest
buildings in North America. Visit Chapelle St. Louis, Louisbourg's
garrison Chapel. Talk to a soldier, baker or bar maid of the 18th
century. You'll find them happy to tell you about living conditions,
security, food and life in general.
After lunch at the
Fort we motor to our destination for the evening where we will enjoy
our very own lobster boil dinner. Walk around outside in the
evening and watch the waves lap at the shore maybe even enjoy an old
fashioned sing song with your travel companions. (Breakfast, Dinner) One Night

Day 6, Return to Halifax, -
We leave today for Halifax; on our way we stop in Antigonish for a
break where you can view St. Francis Xavier University, one of the
oldest in Canada. Tour the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, Atlantic
Canada's largest museum housing more then 37,000 artifacts. If the
times are right at Salmon River in Truro we can catch a glimpse of a
rare natural phenomenon; ‘The Tidal Bore’. The surge of the
incoming Fundy tide temporarily reverses the flow of the river and
appears as a crest of water travelling upriver. We get back into
Halifax in time to rest up or you may choose to walk around town on
your own before we go to a delightful dinner at one of Halifax’s
Famous Dinner theaters. (Breakfast, Dinner) Two Nights |
Day 7, Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg - Farewell Dinner Today
you discover the mysterious charm of Peggy’s Cove and
visit the Town of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you

feast together to reminisce about our trip, tell tall tales to each
other and say farewell to new friends. (Breakfast, Dinner)
